SOLUTION
Sweden is a country with very modern and beautiful architecture. If the goal is to create a new landmark for the city, it's not enough to simply design facades using existing facade technologies and materials. That's why, for this project, research was conducted with the aim of finding a facade solution that had not been used before. Sweden doesn't get a lot of sunshine, so large windows are good. In this project, such windows were placed in the kitchen and living areas of all apartments. These are jumbo-sized windows that extend beyond the facade's plane. The other rooms, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, were equipped with smaller windows that have external blinds/louvers. This way, apartment owners get maximum sunlight in the living spaces, along with additional space and an interesting feature in the other rooms. The blinds/louvers on the facade continue as lines that envelop the entire building, creating a unified volume. So, by interacting with the blinds/louvers, residents of the apartments interact with the entire building's facade.
Materials for the facade were chosen with the idea that the fewer different colors/materials - the better. A sensitive combination of only steel and glass creates a memorable image that can aims to become a new landmark for the city.
- The building features special Corten steel, which pays homage to traditional Swedish wooden architecture.
- Each floor has two apartments that can be combined into one.
- Each apartment includes a large panoramic window in the kitchen-living area.
- The other rooms, such as bedrooms and bathrooms with windows, have blinds or louvers controlled from the exterior facade.
- The ground floor houses commercial spaces, including shops, bars, and restaurants.
